New bedroom and the Bali storage bed
I've just moved house and chose the Bali 90x190 white lacquered storage bed for my new bedroom. I had never had a storage bed like this before and thought it would be ideal for storing my clothes, shoes and accessories.
My experience with assembling my bed
I assembled the storage bed myself and would like to tell you about my experience!
1st challenge: one bed, countless dowels
I was so looking forward to creating my new Bali single bed! During the first steps of assembly, it seems as if you have to use countless dowels - okay, maybe not countless, but it sometimes feels like it.
I soon realised that tightening the thicker dowels can be painful on the fingers. Here's a simple trick I discovered and used throughout the assembly:
- Using an angle bracket: Use one of the angles provided - these are stronger than cardboard and protect the floor from damage.
- Tap the dowel in place: Place the bracket on the stubborn dowel that won't go in and tap it. Your fingers will thank you!
- The result: The dowel fits perfectly and your hands remain unharmed!
Of course, these steps are only necessary if you don't have a rubber mallet, as was the case with me. All I had was an electric screwdriver, a screwdriver and my hands!
2nd challenge: Assembling alone vs. with help
The assembly of my new single bed went well until I realised that sometimes you really do need two people. Some parts and screws simply couldn't be put together on my own.
If, like me, you're more of a book, coffee and Netflix kind of person, you should find a strong person to help you: Some screws require quite a bit of force to screw them in all the way, and often the screwdriver isn't enough, so you have to help manually.
Inserting the bed frame, i.e. the frame for the mattress, can also be difficult without additional help, as you have to hold the slats and screw them in at the same time.
A shared experience
In the end, the assembly turned into a little party because my helper and I had a lot of fun together! Every time we finished a part of the bed with storage space, it was a win!
One last tip: Pay attention to the choice of bed material
If you don't have many tools and strength at your disposal, the Bali caramel storage bed is easier to assemble than the white one: I helped my brother assemble his wooden bed (Single Bed with Storage Bali Caramel) and the pine wood was much easier to assemble and screw together than the lacquered MDF.
Conclusion: A worthwhile experience
And here is my lovely Bali bed, fully assembled:
A young woman assembling a piece of wooden furniture on her own! It was really fun - my favourite part was putting the drawers together.
Although I did almost everything on my own and without much experience, the whole assembly took about 5 hours and 30 minutes.
My storage bed and the best part of the build
Definitely the best part of the assembly is the end: when the mattress is on the bed and you can sleep peacefully!
